As we tag-team teach through Romans chapters 5 – 8, I will address chapter 5 verses 1-11 today.
Paul’s letter to the Church in Rome has been summarized in many ways. It has been summarized that Paul’s dominant concern in Romans is salvation—God’s reconciliation of the world through the cross of Jesus Christ. Other scholars write that Romans is the most succinct, clear, and systematic presentation of Christian doctrine in all of scripture.
I have a unique take on Romans, but one thing I know for certain is that Paul is defining his gospel in his letter to the church in Rome. Paul’s gospel is the gospel of reconciliation. It defines his ministry. The problem in the church today is that they do not understand reconciliation. Paul writes that God has reconciled us unto Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. So, what is it to be reconciled (or reconciliation)?
